After a year in which the coronavirus completely changed the workplace, whereby millions of people worked from home, got used to not traveling and not getting dressed for work, what will the workplace look like for the rest of 2021 and beyond?
Based upon many comprehensive surveys, it appears that many businesses will adapt the “hybrid” platform whereby some employees will return to the office, others will work from home, and many will do a combination of both. In order to implement a “hybrid” workplace it will require a significant amount of coordination to ensure that “in office” meetings can be held when certain employees are in the office.
Another factor to consider is vaccination. Some employers want to require their employees to get vaccinated in order to return to the office (with allowances made for disabilities and religious objections) and others will strongly encourage getting vaccinated.
Compensation may be affected as well, as companies that hire out of town workers in lower cost areas to fill their jobs, they will pay according to the area that they are working in, which may affect local hiring. In addition, companies may hire more out of town people to fill their jobs for cost savings which could affect employment locally.
The effects of the Pandemic will continue well after the virus has been contained.
